FAQs
Can you explain the Breaux Bridge City Court Ward 4 voting district?
1
BACKGROUND:
The Breaux Bridge City Court was established by Louisiana law (RS 13:2488.71) to replace the former Mayor's Court of Breaux Bridge and the justice of the peace/constable offices in Ward. As a result, the judge is elected every six years by voters of Ward 4 in St. Martin Parish.
This is an at-large election for the ward, meaning it's not limited to city residents. Its territorial jurisdiction covers the entire Ward 4, not just the City of Breaux Bridge.
The following description is provided for general informational purposes only and is intended as a simplified, good-faith overview of Ward 4. Ward boundaries are established by official governmental maps and records, which control in the event of any discrepancy.
Ward 4 encompasses Breaux Bridge (the largest community) but extends beyond its city limits to include, generally speaking, unincorporated regions west of the city down Mills Highway to Chess Broussard and Sawmill Highway; and including all of Jaco and Poche Bridge; from Sawmill Hwy northerly to Declouet Hwy to LA 31; and from there it follows LA 31 easterly and southernly to Poche Bridge; then in an easterly direction across I-10 to Doyle Melancon, and northeasterly towards Grand Point Hwy through Nina, Zin Zin, Grand Bois and extending to Butte La Rose and parts of Catahoula; Ward 4 also extends from Breaux Bridge generally southernly down Poydras Hwy to Hebert Lane and down LA 31 towards Parks and includes areas of Ruth, Lake Martin and parts of Cypress Island.
The ward's boundaries are irregularly shaped, including all of Breaux Bridge and generally extending outwardly therefrom to the surrounding unincorporated are. This is a general guideline to Ward 4; however, for a precise check of whether an address is in Ward 4, find the exact polling place for a precinct or confirm based on your address, use the Louisiana Secretary of State Voter Portal:
